Why the Rampage?
One popular question about the Midwest Rampage has been, "Why the Rampage?...why now in Webster City?" The answer to that question is actually quite simple: the Midwest Rampage was created to be a Minor League football team based out of Webster City (IA) for one main reason: so players, fans, and sponsors from the Webster City area can play, watch, and/or support competitive football.
The roster of the Midwest Rampage consists of a core group of players from Webster City who played for
the Iowa Eagles from 2007-2009 and helped lead that team into the 2009 WFL
Playoffs. All home Eagle games were played in Manson (IA) except the last regular season
game of 2009 which took
place in Webster City.
Since that last regular season game, many people in Webster City expressed the interest for the town to have its own team... and "own" meant not having another town's team play in Webster City—"own" meant a new team with an original name, colors, and mascot.
Such that, several players from Webster City—which comprised nearly two-thirds of the entire Eagles' 2009 roster of 36—decided to start their own team in Webster City after numerous players, fans, and sponsors approached them after the game in Webster City. Seemingly, Webster City—situated between Fort Dodge, Ames, Cedar Falls, and Mason City as well as located just off of Highway 20 and a mere 13 miles from Interstate 35—is the perfect location to have a Minor League football squad.
After all, if towns such as Manson, Paulina, Waterloo, Ottumwa, Glenwood, Davenport, Dubuque, and Des Moines can support successful teams, then why not Webster City?
Basically, the people involved in the creation of the Midwest Rampage believe that this city is the perfect location for a semi-pro football team due to several factors that include: location, a strong hometown base, a city with traditional football pride, a plethora of players, and a market of supportive sponsors. On the flip side, the Rampage honestly believes they can reciprocate to the town by providing Webster City with entertaining, family-oriented, hard-hitting, and competitive football between the months of May-July. Furthermore, the Midwest Rampage will strive to be a successful team that excels in all areas.
Such that, it's only best to say that the bottom line is the creation of the Midwest Rampage occurred solely for the love of the game.
