Marty Hart named new Head Coach of Midwest Rampage
November 15, 2011
Marty Hart has been named the new head coach of the Midwest Rampage after recently meeting with the Rampage Board of Directors.  Hart, the Rampage's Defensive Coordinator this past season, has a wealth of coaching experience in the Minor League ranks as well as in both junior college and high school.  Former Rampage Head Coach Chris Hansen recently stepped down as the leader of the Rampage due to time constraints; Hansen led the Rampage to a 3-6 record in their 2010 debut and a 7-4 mark in 2011 including playing for the inaugural MFA title.  "Marty's experience and success, s well as his familiarity with many current Rampage players, makes him a perfect candidate to lead the Rampage," said Team President/CEO Darin Eklund.  The Rampage continue to seek additional coaching and staff members for the upcoming 2012 season.

2012 MFA meeting nets 13 total teams in attendance, great outlook for upcoming season
November 12, 2011
The November 5th Midwest Football Alliance meeting held last week in Des Moines witnessed both returning and potential new teams interesting in joining the league for the upcoming season.  After a solid inaugural season in 2011, all 6 MFA teams who finished the season in good standing--the Des Moines Blaze, Midwest Rampage, Iowa Sharks, Capital City Crush, Bridge City Knights, and Sioux Falls Stallions--were joined by seven other teams either physically present or in absentia.  "The meeting went very well," said MFA Board Member and Blaze head coach Tyrone Tyler, "we aim to build upon what we did last year as a league and so far we have had nothing but positive feedback."

Changes for Rampage include new Team President and Vice President as team begins to gear up for 2012 season
October 25, 2011
The Midwest Rampage are coming off a stellar 2011 season which saw them go 7-4 and play for the inaugural Midwest Football Alliance title.  However, as with all things, life goes forward and the Rampage now begin the process of gearing up for the 2012 season.  The team's Board of Director's recently met and Team President/CEO John Elkin resigned citing both work and family obligations.  "It was an honor to serve as the Rampage's Team President for two years," Elkin said, "and in that short time the Board, coaching staff, and players virtually built a successful team overnight.  To go 3-6 our first season to 7-4 and play for the MFA title this year says it all.  Also, I can't say enough about the support the Rampage has received from Webster City and the surrounding communities."  Former Vice President/GM Darin Eklund was elected as the new Team President while Brian Miller took Eklund's place as the Vice President.  Also, Board Member Jared Bell resigned his position from the Rampage citing personal obligations and time constraints.  In his first official statement as Team President/CEO, Eklund said, "Nearly two years ago the Rampage was created to provide both the community and individuals with competitive Minor League Football and having done that, we want to continue the tradition of winning that we have established in what is now known as Rampage Country!"

Rampage fall to Blaze in MFA Championship game, 41-10, finish with 7-4 record and as MFA Runners-up
August 20, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (7-4) lost to the Des Moines Blaze (12-0) in the inaugural MFA Championship game, 41-10, at Valley Stadium on a perfect summer night for Minor League football.  Down 13-3 at halftime, the Rampage had high hopes of upsetting the nationally ranked #1 team but a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Blaze returner Titus Bland began a second half seemingly destined for the Blaze.  The Rampage got on the board in the 1st half when PK Chuck Tack nailed a 38-yard field goal and in the second half, WR Alonzo Clayton caught and ran in a 13-yard pass from QB Ben Wolford.  "It was a great season and to go from 3-6 to a 7-4 squad who played for the MFA title shows the hard work of many individuals," said Rampage head coach Chris Hansen, "we intended to give the Blaze our best shot and the 1st half proved that.  Unfortunately, they convincingly won the second half.  I'm proud of this team for what they've accomplished."  Rampage President/CEO and MLB John Elkin added, "No one wants to lose a championship game but the fact is we're a small town team who in our second year has become one of the best Minor League football teams around.  We're just a bunch of Iowa boys and except for Des Moines, have beaten all of the big city teams--some even with a bunch of players from Florida--like Dubuque, the Quad Cities, Lincoln, and Ottumwa.  So, the Rampage have nothing to hang their heads for because finishing 7-4 and as the MFA Runners-up is a major accomplishment."  The team will have their Second Annual Season-end Banquet next Sunday, August 28th, at the Grid Iron Grill & Sports Lounge starting at 3:00 pm.

Rampage route Sharks 40-0 in Semifinal game, advance to MFA championship
August 14, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (7-3) toppled the Iowa Sharks (5-4) by a score of 40-0 in the MFA Semifinal game held in Webster City.  Although the Rampage got off to a slow start, they built a 6-0 lead in the 1st half after PK Chuck Tack nailed two field goals of 38 and 42 yards.  Then, just prior to halftime, DB Nate Treibel intercepted a Sharks pass and took it to the house to give the Black & Orange a 13-0 halftime lead.  In the 2nd half, the Black Plague Defense stuffed the Sharks on their first offensive series which started the route as the offense then took over by scoring four touchdowns ala WR Clint Foth (receiving), RB Dan Schaa (receiving), WR Chris McNiel (receiving), and QB Blake Zacharias (rushing).  The Rampage drove to the Sharks' 1-yard line with less than a minute left but then showed mercy by downing the ball.  Defensively, the Black Plague not only limited their opponents to under 100 yards of offense, but also gave the Sharks' their first-ever shutout; so hard hitting was the BPD that no less than five Sharks players were knocked out of the game.  As a team, the Rampage handed the Sharks their worst loss ever in their six year history.  The Rampage advance to the inaugural MFA Championship game against the Des Moines Blaze who narrowing beat the Capital City Crush 29-21; the championship game will be held at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines next Saturday, August 20th at 2:00 pm.

Courts dismiss injunction against MFA = Are you ready for some playoffs?
August 5, 2011
The injunction field by the Dubuque Bruisers against the MFA that temporally put the upcoming playoffs in limbo was dismissed earlier today, thus paving way for the playoffs to continue as planned.  In short, not only did the court rule that the MFA playoffs will go on without the Dubuque Bruisers, but that the expulsion of the Bruisers from the MFA was justified and within the authority of the governing body of the MFA.  While the Rampage host the Sharks in Webster City on August 13 at 4:00 pm, the Capital City Crush travel to take on the Des Moines Blaze.

Injunction filed against MFA, courts will decide fate of MFA playoffs
August 4, 2011
The format of the upcoming MFA playoffs are uncertain as the Dubuque Bruisers, Inc. filed an injunction against the Midwest Football Alliance after the Bruisers' affiliation with the MFA was terminated by a 5-0 vote due to a disparaging and profane-laced video that attacked both Rampage players and the MFA was uploaded on the official Dubuque Bruisers YouTube page using footage from the Bruisers' 48-14 victory over the Rampage on June 18.  The MFA has retained a lawyer and hopes to have the matter settled before the weekend.  To read the full Daily Freeman-Journal article, click HERE.

Rampage to take on Sharks in MFA Semifinal Round
July 31, 2011
The official 2011 MFA playoff seeding has been released and the #2-seed Midwest Rampage (6-2 in MFA, 6-3 overall) will take on the #3-seed Iowa Sharks (5-3 in MFA, 5-3 overall) in the Semifinal Round.  The game will be hosted by the Rampage in Webster City on Saturday, August 13 with a scheduled kickoff of 4:00 pm.  Earlier this season in Week #2 the Sharks defeated the Rampage, 7-6, in Sutherland, Iowa.  "In the playoffs, it's a whole new season," said Rampage Head Coach Chris Hansen, "and while we accomplished one of our team goals in being a top 1-2 seed, that means nothing now because if we lose, we're done for the season."  The game versus the Sharks will be broadcast live via UStream.  Look for more information in the forthcoming week.

Rampage lose to Blaze, 37-22, but still secure #2 seed in MFA playoffs
July 24, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (6-2 in MFA, 6-3 overall) dropped a tough battle to the Des Moines Blaze (8-0 MFA, 9-0 overall) in their regular season finale, 37-22.  The Blaze jumped out to a 10-0 lead before RB Monterio Poe broke free on a 70-yard touchdown run to narrow the Blaze's lead to 10-6.  Prior to halftime, the Blaze scored again to go up 17-6 before PK Chuck Tack nailed a 37-yard field goal to make the halftime score 17-9.  In the 2nd half, however, the Blaze capitalized on several Rampage errors to gain a sizeable lead before the Rampage scored two late touchdowns to make the score respectable.  "There's a reason the Blaze are the #1-ranked team in the nation," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "you can't make mistakes against them or not finish drives and we did both."  While the Blaze top the MFA standings with an 8-0 record, the Rampage are the #2 seed as they finish 6-2 and regarding points differential, are well ahead of the Dubuque Bruisers (5-2 in MFA, 7-2 overall) who have one game remaining.  Such that, the Rampage will have a 1st Round BYE on August 6th in the upcoming MFA playoffs before hosting the Semifinal game on August 13 versus the winner of the #4 or #5 seed .  More info will be released in the near future.  Thanks to all the Rampage fans that came to the game last night to support the Rampage.

Showdown MFA style: Rampage vs. Blaze
July 21, 2011
This Saturday, July 23, the Midwest Rampage (6-1 MFA, 6-2 overall) take on the Des Moines Blaze (7-0 MFA, 8-0 overall) for the regular season MFA title.  While the Rampage boast the #1 defense in the league, the Blaze have the #1 offense.  For the Rampage, the game has playoff seeding implications as they are seeking a top 1-2 seed and a win would secure that.  However, they know it won't come easy.  "The Blaze are a top-notch organization who we greatly respect," said Rampage middle linebacker and Team President/CEO John Elkin, "their roster has a plethora of talent whose core has been playing together for many years.  Furthermore, the last two seasons they have compiled a 17-2 record while virtually going unchallenged.  The Rampage is ready to play but we know that from the git-go the Blaze will come out swinging despite the friendships many of our players have with theirs... they want to win just like we do."  Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm and all Rampage fans are reminded that your season passes will be honored at the Blaze's home venue.

Rampage ranked #53 in country by SemiPro BCS Power Rankings
July 16, 2011
Slowly but surely the Midwest Rampage (6-1 MFA, 6-2 overall) are making headway. In just their second season, they have not only doubled the number of total wins they earned in their inaugural 2010 season, but have put themselves in a position to be one of the top two seeds in the upcoming Midwest Football Alliance playoffs. Such that, in the latest Power Rankings released by SemiPro BCS, the Rampage are now in spot #53 whereas last week they were #90. The #1 Des Moines Blaze (7-0) retain their top spot while the Dubuque Bruisers (5-2 MFA)--whom the Rampage defeated last Saturday 28-20--dropped from #43 to #89. The Iowa Sharks (4-3) are the final top 100 MFA team in the rankings and slid from #46 to #86 after their 27-14 loss to the Sioux Falls Stallions. "I think it says a lot," commented Rampage Vice President/GM Darin Eklund who also is on the MFA Board of Directors, "that the MFA has four (out of 361) teams ranked in the top 100. Of course, rankings don't play games but for teams in our league to get that kind of national recognition is great for the MFA." To view the official rankings, click HERE.

Redemption!  Rampage beat Bruisers 28-20 with stifling Black Plague Defense
July 16, 2011
The Midwest Rampage improved their record to 6-1 in the MFA and 6-2 overall with a 28-20 victory over the Dubuque Bruiser who dropped to 6-2 for the season.  At game time, the temperature was 93 degrees with a heat index of 106 and the heat definitely was a factor for both teams  The Rampage took a 3-0 lead on their first possession when PK Chuck Tack nailed a field goal from 27 yards out.  However, Dubuque then scored on their first possession with a 49-yard pass to take a 6-3 lead.  The Bruisers then scored again on a 78-yard interception return for a touchdown to go up 12-3.  However, the Rampage then begin to claw their way back into the game when QB Blake Zacharias hooked up with WR Aron Kliegl on a 30-yard touchdown reception to cut the Bruiser's lead to 12-9.  The Black Plague Defense then took over when OLB Cory Stuhr intercepted a Bruisers pass on 4th and 9 and returned it 99-yards for a touchdown (and new team record!) to give the Rampage a 15-12 lead at halftime.  In the 3rd quarter, DE Caleb Bonjour intercepted a swing pass and took it to the end zone from 30 yards out to give the Black & Orange a 21-14 advantage.  In the 4th quarter QB Ben Wolford connected with WR Chris McNiel on a 50-yard pass as the Rampage then increased their lead to 28-14.  Early in the 4th quarter Tack attempted a 34-yard field goal with the hopes of putting the Rampage up 31-14 but the kick was blocked and the Bruisers returned the ball 95-yards for the touchdown to make the game 28-20.  The Black Plague Defense, as they had done so since the 1st quarter, put the clamp on the Bruiser's high-octane offense and ended any hopes of a comeback when DB Josh Chambers made the fourth Rampage interception of the day.
While Zacharias was 7/17 for 78 yard with 1 TD and 1 INT, Wolford was 6/11 for 121 yards and 1 TD.  RB Monterio Poe carried the ball 17 times for 67 hard-earned yards while receiving-wise, Chris McNiel hauled in 5 passes for 67 yards and 1 TD.  Defensively, the Rampage held the Bruisers to just 24 net yards rushing while their aerial attack was 21/43 for for 283 yards with 1 TD and 4 INTs.  The Black Plague Defense was led by FS Andy Sowle (7 tackles), ILB John Elkin (7 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 pass deflection), OLB DJ Erkenbrack (6 tackles), OB Ross Haren (5 tackles, 3 pass deflections),  CB Tyler Mosbach (5 tackles, 1 pass deflection, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery), ILB Dan Schaa (5 tackles, 2 QB sacks for -20 yards), SS Nate Treibel (5 tackles), Stuhr (4 tackles, 1 INT for 99-yard return, 1 fumble recovery) and CB Dirk Timm (3 pass deflections, 1 INT, 1 tackle).
It was a great win for us," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "the Bruisers are a very good team with a lot of talent but our squad never quit and played 60 minutes of football."  Defensive Coordinator Marty Hart added, "The first time we played the Bruisers they embarrassed us 46-14 but that wasn't true Rampage football.  We learned from that loss that you never underestimate your opponent and that no team in the MFA wills simply roll over... I'm proud of my guys for stepping up and making all of the plays that helped us win today."
The Rampage next take on the Des Moines Blaze who are 9-0 and ranked #1 in the country in the BCS Semi-Pro Power Rankings.  The game is schedule for a 7:30 pm kickoff in Johnston and the Rampage--who have already locked up a #1-4 seed in the upcoming MFA playoffs--are playing for the coveted #1 or #2 seed which will give them a 1st Round BYE.  All Rampage fans are reminded that your season passes will be honored at the Blaze's home venue on Saturday the 23rd.

Rampage vs. Bruisers Part II
July 14, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (5-1/5-2) are readying themselves to play the Dubuque Bruisers (6-1/6-1) for the second time this season.  The Rampage don't need to be reminded of the outcome of the last contest against the Bruisers as they were on the end of a 46-14 whooping.  "Our intention, as it is every game," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "is to compete and improve."  The game will be held at Stampede Stadium with a scheduled kickoff of 5:00 pm and the game will also be broadcast live via UStream.

Relay for Life featuring Rampage Dunk Tank a success
July 14, 2011
The Midwest Rampage raised $255 towards the fight against cancer last weekend as they had a dunk tank and raffled off a signed jersey and helmet at the Relay for Life event.  Rampage players also served as judges in the frozen tee shirt contest.  Team Vice President/GM Darin Eklund said, "This is our second year doing the Relay for Life and it's just a way for the Rampage to give back to the community and help fight cancer."

Rampage steamroll Knights, 52-0, secure MFA playoff spot
July 10, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (5-1/5-2) defeated the Bridge City Knights (1-6) in Ottumwa last night, 52-0, to secure a playoff spot in the upcoming MFA playoffs.  Despite playing without a handful of starters, the Rampage rattled off 52-straight points after a scoreless 1st Quarter to notch their fifth win this season.  The Rampage led 21-0 at halftime after QB Blake Zacharias--who was 11/13 for 201 yards and 3 TDs in the game--hooked up with WR Andy Goeb (6 receptions for 116 yards, 2 TDs) twice on touchdown plays of 43 and 9 yards as well as a 30 yard throw to WR Chris McNiel (2 receptions, 47 yards, 1 TD). In the 2nd half, RBs Monterio Poe (17 carries for 101 yards, 1 TD) Dan Schaa (14 carries, 51 yards, TD) and Leo Stucky (2 carries for 9 yards, 1 TD) each scored a touchdown run and DB Nate Treibel (4 tackles, 2 INTs, 1 TD) returned an interception 25-yards for a touchdown.  PK Chuck Tack was not only 7/7 for extra points, but also nailed a 30-yard field goal while defense was led by FS Andy Sowle (12 tackles, 1 PD), MLB John Elkin (10 tackles, 1 PD), and OLB Ross Haren (9 tackles); the Knights were held to just 31 yards on 21 carries while aerially were 10/23 for 163 yards and 3 TDs.
"The Knights are a top-notch classy team run by a great guy, Tom Lanthrop," said Team President/CEO Elkin, "their grass field is beautiful, the way their administration treats visiting teams is unmatched, and their team plays the game with the utmost respect and integrity... they are a great bunch of guys and it's unfortunate they have lost a lot of players due to injury this season."  The Rampage next take on the Dubuque Bruisers at home on July 16 with a scheduled kickoff of 5:00 pm; in their last meeting on June 18, the Bruisers handed the Rampage an embarrassing 46-14 loss.

Rampage break Sioux Falls Stallions, 27-6, improve to 4-1 in MFA
June 26, 2011
The Midwest Rampage improved their MFA record to 4-1 and 4-2 overall with a hard fought 27-6 victory over the Sioux Falls Stallions who dropped to 2-5.  The Rampage, playing sporadically at times, jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the 1st quarter after WR Chris McNiel caught a long touchdown pass from QB Blake Zacharias and PK Chuck Tack nailed a 45-yard field goal.  However, the Stallions--who only traveled 22 players--never gave up and fought the entire game until the end.  In the 2nd half, Tack made another field goal, this time 27 yarsd, while RB/WR Kevin Kannuan caught a long ball from QB Ben Wolford and CB Dirk Timm intercepted a James Augustus pass and returned it nearly 80 yards for the touchdown to put the Rampage up 27-0.  The Stallions completed a long touchdown pass with less then 5 minutes remaining to make the final 27-6.  The Rampage have a BYE during the 4th of July weekend before traveling to Ottumwa on July 9.

Bruisers thump Rampage, 46-14, but still in MFA title hunt with 3-1 league record
June 19, 2011
The Midwest Rampage (3-2/3-1) came out short-handed and flat against the Dubuque Bruisers (3-1/3-1) and paid the price with a humiliating 46-14 loss.  The Bruisers scored on several big plays including a 99-yard pass and were led by former University of Dubuque standout quarterback Jermar Jackson who also recently played professionally in Europe and Arena leagues.  The Brusiers led 33-5 at halftime and the only 1st half offensive score by the Rampage occurred when PK Chuck Tack nailed a 50-yard field goal in the 2nd quarter.  Two safeties courtesy the Rampage offense and then a 27-yard touchdown pass from QB Ben Wolford to WR Andy Goeb accounted for the other 11 points.  Jackson shredded the Rampage defense for 465 yards of aerial offense and 6 touchdowns while on offense, RB Monterio Poe rushed for 97 yards on 12 carries.   Fortunately for the Rampage, this game did not count towards MFA playoff seeding as only 8 games are required and thus a month ago this specific game was declared as non-league.  "We underestimated the Bruisers," said Rampage head coach Chris Hansen, "and factor in that the quarterback we saw on film wasn't the quarterback that played, we were also drastically under-prepared.  Simply put, they handed it to us on both offense and defense."  The Rampage need to have a short memory as next week they take on the Sioux Falls Stallions at home with a scheduled kickoff of 5:00 pm.

The Midwest Rampage improved their record to 3-1 with a 46-7 victory over the visiting Bridge City Knights who fell to 1-3.  The Rampage exploded to a 26-0 1st quarter lead and at halftime led 32-7.  The Black & Orange scored in a variety of ways including through the air with receptions by WR Alonzo Clayton, on the ground via RBs Dan Schaa and Kevin Kannuan, with PK Chuck Tack's leg, and on defense as both DB Tyler Mosbach and MLB John Elkin returned interceptions for touchdowns.  While the Rampage suited up 46 total players, the Knights--who have suffered 6 major injuries this season--only brought 22 players.  "Hats off to the Knights," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "they were outnumbered but never gave up and fought until the very end on a very hot night.  They are a very hard-hitting and classy team."  Team President/CEO Elkin also echoed Hansen's thought, "Last year we were in a similar situation as the Knights and injuries really can hinder a team.  I feel for the Knights--they all are a bunch of cool guys who played with class and respect and on behalf of the Rampage, we wish them well."  Through 4 games, the Rampage have outscored their opponents 127-22.  Next weekend on June 11 have a BYE before traveling to Cascade, IA, on June 18 to play the Dubuque Bruisers.

May 28, 2011
Check out the newest video on YouTube's MIDWEST RAMPAGE TV channel featuring Rampage PK Chuck Tack and his kicks through the first 3 games of the 2011 season.  Tack, the 2009 NAFL "Kicker of the Year," was a member of the 1997 Nebraska Cornhusker national championship squad and also has played in the NFL, NFL Europe, Canadian, and Arena leagues.  Tack currently leads the Midwest Football Alliance in points scored with 19 and his booming kickoffs and punts--along with the excellent coverage by the players on those teams--has has helped the Rampage to a 2-1 start.  Check out the video HERE or click the image to the right.

Rampage to enjoy BYE weekend
May 24, 2011
The Midwest Rampage will have a BYE this Memorial Day weekend after starting the season 2-1 which includes a close 7-6 lost to the Iowa Sharks.  "We had two very strong showings," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "and one in which I believe most of our players would admit that they didn't give their best effort.  Nonetheless, we have improved not only from last year, but also since the first game of the season and we need to keep improving if we want to play for the MFA championship."  The Rampage resume action at home on Saturday, June 4 at 5:00 pm against the Bridge City Knights.

Rampage roll over Quad City Stallions, 36-8
May 22, 2011
The Midwest Rampage improved their record to 2-1 after defeating the Quad City Stallions 36-8.  The Rampage scored on their opening drive when WR Andy Goeb caught a pass from QB Blake Zacharias and broke away from several defenders to put the Rampage up 7-0 after a successful extra point kick by PK Chuck Tack.  The Black Plague defense then went to work and virtually shut down the Stallions' offense
for the rest of the half while also forcing a safety in the 2nd quarter.  Offensively in the 2nd quarter, HB Dan Schaa scored two rushing touchdowns while Tack made a 20-yard field goal to put the Rampage up 26-0 at halftime.  In the 2nd half, the Stallions advanced to the Rampage's 4-yard line but were stopped on 4th and 3; however, on the next play Quad City got a safety to make the score 26-2.  The Rampage then scored late in the 3rd quarter when Tack nailed a 42-yard field goal and then in the 4th quarter, MLB John Elkin intercepted a pass and returned it 75-yards for a touchdown to put the Rampage up 36-2 before the Stallions scored late in the game on a long pass to make the final 36-8.  The Rampage have a BYE next Memorial Day weekend before resuming action at home on June 4th against the Bridge City Knights who won their opening game, 34-6, over the Iowa Eagles of the Alliance Football League.  In other MFA action, the Capital City Crush defeated the Sioux Falls Stallions, 34-27.

Rampage lose nailbiter to Sharks, 7-6
May 15, 2011
The Midwest Rampage dropped to 1-1 in the MFA after beating themselves in a 7-6 loss to the Iowa Sharks in Sutherland, Iowa, on a cold and rainy night.  Playing on a short field in the 1st Half due to its defense and errors by the Sharks on special teams, the Rampage botched three field goal attempts of 50, 22, and 32 yards that would have made the difference in the game.  On their third possession, the Sharks took a 7-0 lead after a 13-yard touchdown reception which would be their only score of the game.  In the 2nd half on their second possession, the Rampage mounted a 17-play drive that resulted in an 11-yard touchdown reception by WR Alonzo Clayton from QB Ben Wolford.  The Black Plague Defense stopped the Sharks--who ran every play in the 2nd half save for 2 passes--and with 5 minutes remaining, the Black & Orange mounted their final effort:  a 14-play drive that started from their own 25 yard line and ended at the Sharks' 20.  However, on 4th & 9, the Rampage attempted their fourth field goal of the day but poor execution resulted in PK Chuck Tack not even getting an opportunity to win the game.  Wolford was 13/25 for 161 yards while WR Andy Goeb hauled in 5 passes for 72 yards.  Defensively, the Rampage held the Sharks to 5/10 passes for 34 yards with 1 TD and 2 INTs and 36 rushes for 154 yards and were led by MLB John Elkin (17 tackles), OLB Ross Haren (12 tackles, 1 INT), SS Andy Sowle (10 tackles, 2 pass blocks), and DT Joe Gilbert (10 tackles).  The Rampage next play the Quad City Stallions at home next Saturday with a scheduled kickoff at 4:00 pm.

May 7, 2011
The Midwest Rampage opened up the 2011 season with a convincing 39-0 victory over the Capital City Crush who traveled from Lincoln, NE.  The Rampage took a 26-0 halftime lead on the strength of several big scores including 27-yard touchdown reception from QB Blake Zacharias to WR Alonzo Clayton as well a 57-yard nterception return for a touchdown by DB Tyler MosbachPK Chuck Tack also was 2/3 for field goals including a 41-yard strike.  The Black Plague Defense held the visiting team to just 32 yards rushing and 120 yards passing while forcing 5 turnovers.  For complete story, go to "IN THE PRESS" menu and select "2011".

2011 Captains announced
May 4, 2011
After the last Rampage practice before their first game, Head Coach Chris Hansen announced the team captains for the 2011 season as voted by the players last Saturday.  Offensively, RB Dan Schaa and WR Chris McNiel were named captains while on defense, DL Brian Miller and MLB John Elkin were announced.  "It's noteworthy to mention some other players that their peers thought highly of," said Hansen, "as OL Jay Smith, QB Ben Wolford, and DBs Andy Sowle and Dirk Timm also received numerous votes.  My expectation is that all of these players serve as leaders on and off the field this season."  The Rampage take on the Capital City Crush this weekend at 4:00 pm.

New goal posts have arrived along with custom-made pads; 2011 season looms near and is just 2 months away
March 4, 2011
Thanks to the Webster City Hotel/Motel Tax Grant, the Rampage are now owners of new goal posts which will be installed on Rampage Field very soon.  The team also received custom-made pads with the goal posts (PICTURED TO RIGHT) which will certainly jazz up the field on game day.  Along with the new scoreboard purchased last year as well as the addition of new bleachers (by WCHS in conjunction with the construction of the new gym), the Rampage have greatly improved their home facilities in just one short year.  "We cannot express enough gratitude towards both the WC Hotel/Motel Tax Board, but also the entire town as we have received nothing but support from them since our inception," said Vice President/GM Darin Eklund, "and these goal posts will not only modernize the field, but also make it safe for both Rampage and Youth Sport Foundation players."  The goal posts will be installed by the Webster City Community Schools Building and Grounds Department spearheaded by Dave Orton, Michael "Chubby" Smith, and Steve Saathof.

Iowa Pro Sports interview now embedded, interesting topics discussed
March 3, 2011
Some interesting things were discussed when the Midwest Rampage sat down with Troy Vicker from Iowa Pro Sports to talk about the Midwest Rampage, the Des Moines Blaze, the MFA, and some other things including why out of 7 teams in Iowa, all but one are in the Midwest Football Alliance.  On that note, the Rampage would like to make it publicly known that they have an open date on June 11.  "The Rampage more than welcome the opportunity to play the Fort Dodge team in their own venue but it's unlikely to never happen--and not because of us," said OL/DL Tanner Day while MLB John Elkin added of the unlikeliest of Rampage-Eagles match-up, "It's unfortunate that numerous North Central Iowa communities won't be able to witness the talent of so many local players on the field in what would be the biggest Minor League football game attendance-wise in Iowa... but that's ok because 5 other teams in Iowa are more than willing to travel anywhere from 1 to 3 1/2 hours to play us in Webster City."

2011 Schedule now available; no game with Fort Dodge team
February 17, 2011
The 2011 Midwest Rampage is now available under the "2011 Season" module.  The Rampage, who helped form the Midwest Football Alliance along with the Des Moines Blaze, have 9 total regular season games including 5 at home.  "It's very nice not to have to leave the state to play a game," said Vice President/GM Darin Eklund in reference to the fact that the squad will travel to Sutherland, Dubuque, Ottumwa, and Des Moines to play its 4 away games, "and the fact that virtually every viable team in the state is a member of the MFA legitimizes our mission to elevate the status of Minor League football.  We are proud to to say that for except one first-year team, every member of the MFA is an established entity that not only has been around for 2 (or more years), but also has never forfeited a game."  Rampage Board Member Andy Sowle wanted to stress that despite rampant speculation, no game versus the team based out of Fort Dodge will take place.  "It is unfortunate that we have been unsuccessful in negotiations with the owner of that team to play what would be a natural rivalry game, but we are very satisfied with our 2011 schedule... after all, we have 50+ players on our squad and we want to offer them, their families, and all of our fans and sponsors the highest level of Minor League football possible."  The season commences on May 7 when the Rampage take on the Capital City Crush (Lincoln, NE) in Webster City at 4:00 pm.

51 players sign with 2011 Rampage, new additions bolster roster

January 22, 2011
The Midwest Rampage took the first step towards a successful 2011 campaign by signing 51 players to its roster earlier today at the first official Team Meeting.  Of that total number, 38 are returning players from last year's squad which went 3-6 in its inaugural season.  The Rampage also bolstered its roster by adding 13 new players, notably kicker Chuck Tack who was the 2009 NAFL "Kicker of the Year" and wide receiver Alonzo Clayton, a former Fort Dodge prep and Northern Iowa player; both Tack and Clayton have NFL experience as Tack
has worked out for teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens while Clayton signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as a free agent.  In addition to the new players added to the roster, the team also has added several coaches including Marty Hart who will serve as the defensive coordinator and Chris Wood who will oversee Rampage special teams.  The first official team practice takes place February 9.  "We are still looking to add several more quality players to cap our roster at 55," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "and I will be the first to say that a team can never have too many offensive lineman... so if you're a player who wants to play competitive football for a classy organization and good team, the door is still open."

Tryout #2 has 25 participants; pictures uploaded
January 15, 2011
The second and final tryout for the 2011 Midwest Rampage witnessed 25 participants to bring the total number of [potential] players to 55; factor in 7 players either from last year's squad or those how have already committed to the squad (such as kicker Chuck Tack) who were unable to make either tryout and that makes 62 total potentials for this year's squad.  "We're in a good position," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "in the fact that we have more people than our roster cap of 55 tryout for the team... unfortunately, that means some tough decisions will have to be made in the next few days.  However," pointed out Hansen, "nothing is set and stone and interested players may still contact me as a make-up session, as needed, will be held--we are looking for the best players to fit our roster."  The Rampage will have their Player's Meeting next Saturday, January 22nd from 12-2 pm and soon after, the 2011 Roster will be finalized.  Pictures from Tryout #2 are also now available under "MULTIMEDIA".

Rampage gets Hart and brings the Wood with addition of two new coaches

December 30, 2010
The Midwest Rampage added two new coaches in Marty Hart and Chris Wood who join
Head Coach Chris Hansen and Receivers Coach Billy Smith for the 2011 season.  Hart, former head coach of the Iowa Eagles (2006-2010), will serve as the Rampage's "Black Plague" Defensive Coordinator while Wood, the Eagles' Special Teams Coordinator (2006-2010) will run the Rampage Special Teams.  The addition of these two coaches not only bolsters the team's coaching staff, but also reunites the two with many current Rampage players who played for them as former Eagles.  Hart led the Eagles to the 2009 World Football League playoffs en route a 5-4 record which is that organizations only winning season.  As well, both coaches helped a total of 13 current Rampage players earn All-American honors from 2005-2009.  "Coaches Hart and Wood add a lot of experience to our staff," said Team President/CEO John Elkin, "and the fact that they know many of our players is also an intangible benefit for us.  This move also helps out Coach Hansen in the fact that he can now solely focus on the offense which is his specialty while Hart and Wood get to coach their respective position groups."

Premier kicker commits to Rampage in 2011

December 13, 2010
The Midwest Rampage received a huge boost to their roster when kicker Chuck Tack recently committed to the team.  Tack most recently played for the Nebraska Wildcats whom defeated the Rampage twice last season--mainly on the strength and accuracy of Tack's leg as he kicked a total of 7 field goals against the Rampage including a 67-yarder which can be seen on YouTube HERE.  Tack has worked out for NFL teams such as the Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, and Baltimore Ravens as well as CFL squads the Hamilton Tigercats and Saskatchewan Roughriders.  Named the 2009 NAFL "Kicker of the Year," in college Tack was a member of the 1997 Nebraska Husker national championship team.  Although he currently lives in Omaha (NE), Mr. Tack has committed to play for the Rampage for several reasons including the fact that he was not only impressed with the support Webster City gives their team, but also on how the Rampage conducts itself in every facet on and off the field.  "Considering the games we lost last season," said Rampage Head Coach Chris Hansen, "Chuck would have easily won us four, if not five, of those games simply by kicking field goals... and when you factor in his kickoff and punting abilities, he's a weapon that greatly enhances our offense."

Rampage awarded grant for new goal posts by Hotel/Motel Tax Board

December 13, 2010
At the City Council meeting last night, the Webster City Hotel/Motel Tax Board granted the Midwest Rampage $3,539 to purchase new goal posts for their home field at Webster City High School.  The H/M Tax Board overhead a proposal by the team on November 30 and after granting full benefits, made a recommendation to the City Council who then approved of the grant to the Rampage.  "The Rampage are again very humbled by the support our town and surrounding communities have given us," said Vice President/GM Darin Eklund, "the level of support we have received--whether it's from fans, the Daily Freeman-Journal, or the City Council itself, only drives us more to make the city of Webster City proud of us."  The Rampage asked for funds to purchase new goal posts because the current posts on the field inside of Bob Buckley Track are neither safe nor regulation.  "Basically," said Team President/CEO John Elkin, "as 1 of 8 Minor League teams in Iowa and the second-smallest town to have a team, we want to be taken seriously and that starts with our facilities:  teams from big cities like Davenport, Des Moines, Council Bluffs, and Lincoln (NE) aren't going to want to come play us if we don't have the basic amenities a team should have...so we thank the H/M Tax Board for their help in allowing us to take the next step of achieving success."

November 11, 2010
Charter members of the new Midwest Football Alliance recently met on November 6th at Action Printing in Des Moines to hammer out details of the upcoming 2011 season.  In attendance at the meeting were the Midwest Rampage (Webster City, IA), Des Moines Blaze (Des Moines, IA), Iowa Sharks (Sutherland, IA), Quad City Stallions (Davenport, IA), Council Bluffs Panthers (Council Bluffs, IA), Capital City Crush (Lincoln, NE), and Nebraska Lawdawgs (Omaha, NE).  As well, four other teams who were not in attendance but that met in their own area about joining the MFA as a Southern Division include the Midwest Titans, Kansas City Shockers, Columbia Trojans, and Kansas City Panthers.
The meeting lasted 2 1/2 hours and league rules, start date, and playoff formats were discussed.  "The major goal of the MFA," said Rampage Team President/CEO John Elkin, "is to have teams that are local, competitive, and reliable in our league.  For the most part we would like travel time between teams to be 3 hours or less and with most of the teams in Iowa and surrounding states joining or interested in the MFA, things are shaping up pretty good.

October 30, 2010

Rampage land 9 players on All-WFL squad
July 27, 2010

The World Football League recently announced its 2010 All-WFL squad and recognized 47 different players from over 8 different teams with either 1st or 2nd team honors.  In regards to how players were selected, coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players and instead all honorees were based on other coaches' nominations.  While the Oklahoma Thunderthe 2-time defending WFL champion who will be facing the Des Moines Blaze this weekend in World Bowl IVlanded 15 players on the two teams both the Des Moines Blaze and Midwest Rampage had 9 players earn either 1st or 2nd team honors.  Additionally, the St. Louis Bulldogs who advanced to the WFL Semifinals had 7 players recognized while both the Kansas Kaos and Capital City Crush had 3 players earn honors.  As well, several other teams had 1 player each recognized.

Offensively, the Rampage rushed for 1,290 total yards and of that total RBs Jake Thoma and Dan Schaa combined for 1,054 yards and while their way was paved by numerous Rampage linemen in Tanner Day, Joe Gilbert, Jay Smith, Clint Foth, Zach Klaver, Chad Swanson, Eddie Shufford, and Josh Christensen, OTs Caleb Schweiger and Travis Schutt were the only ones honored.  For other teams and coaches to recognize our players is quite an accomplishment for a first-year team," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "especially when
despite the fact that we were very competitive and we had some very close gameswe finished 3-6."

On the other side of the ball, the Rampage's "Black Plague Defense" only allowed 94 yards on the ground and 90 yards through the air per game.
"Defense is a total team concept," commented MLB John Elkin, "so every guy who ever stepped on the field this year for us did a great job.  By far and large, this was the best and most athletic defense I have ever been part of while playing Minor League football."

Midwest Rampage come up 1 point short in season finale
July 11, 2010

The Midwest Rampage lost their 2010 season finale, 7-6, to the Bridge City Knights in a defensive battle on a hot, muggy night to close out their inaugural season with a final record of 3-5. The Knights, who improved to 1-1, scored on their first possession after a poor Rampage punt gave them the ball on Midwest's 20-yard line to take a 7-0 lead.  The Rampage then drove 75-yards and scored on a 6-yard run by QB Dan Schaa; however, the difference in this game proved to be PK Nate Treibel's extra point that was blocked as the Rampage narrowed the gap to 7-6.  The rest of the game proved to be a defensive battle featuring the Rampage's "Black Plague" Defense clamping down on the Knights' triple option offense and the Knights' bend-but-don't-break defense holding their own against the Rampage; three times the Rampage advanced inside their opponents Red Zone but were stopped each time on the 4, 19, and 18-yard line--the latter occurring with less then 1 minute in the game.

Offensively, the Rampage held the advantage in literally every category except turnovers as Schaa threw 4 interceptions. On the ground, Midwest gained 180 yards compared to the Knights' 24 total and were led by RB Jake Thoma (16 carries for 110 yards), Schaa (16 carries for 50 yards), and WB Kevin Kannuan (4 carries for 20 yards). Schaa was also 3/13 for 48 yards in the air with each completion to a different receiver:  Thoma (20 yards), WR Andy Goeb (17 yards), and Treibel (11 yards). Most noteworthy is that Thoma ended the 2010 season with 717 total rushing yards--the best of his three-year Minor League career.

Defensively, the Rampage held Bridge City to just 24 total rushing yards and 33 passing yards.  Regarding 1st downs, the Rampage gained 15 compared to the Knights' 6.  The "Black Plague" defense was led by MLB John Elkin (14 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), FS Andy Sowle (13 tackles), DE Jared Bell (7 tackles), and DE Aaron Onder, CB Dirk Timm, CB Bret Hilpipre, DT Joe Gilbert, and DT Brian Miller who each had 6 stops; Timm also blocked a field goal attempt by the Knights in the 4th quarter.  Elkin ended the season with 97 total stops and was followed by Sowle with 68.

"The Knights are a quality organization and we look forward to playing them next year. Their players acted with class and their coaching staff was more than willing to work with us on our referee situation," said Elkin who was referring to the fact that the WFL official crew never showed up before the game and with less then 45 minutes before kickoff, the Rampage rounded up a crew consisting of Larry Hunt, Chuck Bonjour, Randy Schaa, and Grant Sletten to ref the game.  "Put it like this," said Miller, "I called Grant at 5:00 pm and asked where he was and he said, 'Out on Airport Road riding my bike, why?'  Ten minutes later I was picking him up in my truck so basically he and the other refs we got saved our bacon.  The Knights already had one team, the Nebraska Wildcats, back out of playing them and they drove 3 hours to play us so we had to figure something out and they were cool with the entire situation."

Vice President/GM Darin Eklund commented, "It was great to see nearly 250 people come out and support us this last game.  Overall, in 5 home games we had over 1,500 people attend our games and enough can't be said about the support the Rampage have gotten from Webster City and the surrounding communities such as Kamrar, Williams, Stanhope, and Blairsburg."  Eklund then added, "Of course we wanted to win every game, but to go 3-6 and have 4 of our losses come down to literally the last 2 minutes of the game shows that we were nothing but competitive against big city teams from Lincoln, Omaha, and Ottumwa."

The Rampage will be having their Season-end Awards Banquet on Sunday, July 25th from 4-8 pm at the Grid Iron Grill & Sports Lounge where both Offensive and Defensive MVP honors as well as Offensive and Defensive "Rookie of the Year" honors will be awarded.  As well, aside from enjoying a meal, the team will watch the 2010 Highlight Film which showcases their accomplishments this past season.

"Let me put it like this," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "m
y expectations for this first year were to field a competitive team and we did that.  A lot of guys are bummed about going 3-6 but that is a lot better than most first-year teams (the Knights went 1-9 last year in their first season) and we have a solid core to build from for next year.  I hope people realize now that we are for real and so is semi-pro football in Webster City.  At any level of football you need to recruit good players and right now--while of course we want to add depth to all positions--we are looking for a bona fide quarterback, a kicker/punter, and a few more coaches who want to help take us to the next level."

Game review versus Stallions
June 27, 2010

In their 33-6 victory over the Quad City Stallions who will be playing in the Mid-Land Football League Championship Game--the Rampage, especially on offense--had some spectacular individual efforts.  QB Dan Schaa was 3/5 passing for 90 yards and 2 TDs while also rushing the ball 6 times for 17 yards and 1 TD.  RB Jake Thoma had 19 totes for 101 yards and 2 TDs to bring his season total to 606 yards--the best of his three-year Minor League career with one game still remaining.  Also, RB Kevin Kannuan had 11 carries for 118 yards for an astounding 10.7 yards per carry!  Receiving-wise, WR Andy Goeb hauled in 2 passes for 75 yards including a 55-yard touchdown while WR Nate Treibel caught 1 pass for a 15-yard touchdown.  The "Black Plague Defense" was led by FS Andy Sowle (9 tackles), MLB John Elkin (8 tackles, 1 INT), OLB Tyler Moen (8 tackles), DT Brian Miller (6 tackles), CB Joe Stattelman (5 tackles), and DE Jared Bell (3 tackles, 2 QB sacks for -7 yards). The Rampage racked up a total of 19 1st Downs compared to the Stallions' 9 and won the turnover battle 2-1.  "It was an excellent team effort," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "we played with intensity, we executed well, and we overcame the extreme heat to win the game.  Thanks to all the fans who came out to watch us play."  The Rampage will enjoy next Fourth of July weekend off before returning to Stampede Stadium in Webster City to face their final opponent of the 2010 season, the Bridge City Knights from Ottumwa, IA.

Rampage turn up heat on Stallions, win 33-6
June 26, 2010

The Midwest Rampage improved to their record to 3-5 with a dominating win over the visiting Quad City Stallions who entered the contest with a record of 4-3 and winners of 3 straight including a victory over perennial power the Iowa Sharks.  At kickoff the temperature was 94 degrees with a heat index of 106 but both teams were determined to play and play hard; on their first possession the Stallions drove 92-yards and scored from 2-yards out to take a 6-0 lead.  However, the Rampage then responded by scoring on their next possession to even up the game at 6-6.  The Stallions then not only ran into the buzzsaw known as the "Black Plague Defense" but also the "Ground & Pound Attack" of the offense that also scored via the air to put the Rampage up 19-6 at halftime.  In the 3rd quarter the Stallions put together a nice drive and drove down to the Rampage's 5-yard line but the defense then stiffened and on 4th and 1 caused a fumble which was recovered by the defense.  The offense then put together a 95-yard drive to go up 26-6 and in the 4th quarter scored again to top out with a 33-6 advantage.  "It was an excellent win for us," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "both teams had to deal with the extreme heat and you could tell that guys on both squads were hurting.  The Stallions are a quality organization with a lot of talent and the scoreboard rarely tells the entire story--and in this case that is true they are a very dangerous team offensively and we had our hands full the entire night."  MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS GAME WILL BE COMING ONCE THE OFFICIAL STATS ARE COMPILED!

Rampage lose to Crush in final minutes of game
June 20, 2010

The Midwest Rampage (2-5) traveled just 28 players to Lincoln, Nebraska, and after leading the entire game, lost a hard-fought battle to the Capital City Crush (3-3) in the final minutes of the game, 20-13.  The Rampage took a 2nd Quarter lead after QB Dan Schaa connected with WR Andy Goeb on a 28-yard pass and with PK Nate Treibel's successful PAT, led 7-0 until halftime.  Opening up the second half with the ball, the Crush scored on a 30-yard pass play but the 2-point pass conversion was foiled to keep the Rampage in the lead, 7-6.  On the strength of their running game the Rampage then drove 75-yards down the field and took a 13-6 advantage when Schaa scored from 1-yard out.  The Rampage remained in control until the last four minutes of the game when the Crush then drove down the field via the air and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run; however, the 2-point conversion was again foiled to keep the Rampage ahead, 13-12.  After a great kickoff return by KR Andy Sowle and aided by a 15-yard Crush penalty, the Rampage drove down to the Crush's 25-yard line before turning the ball over on downs with less then two minutes remaining in the game.  Disaster then struck as the Crush scored two plays later on a 52-yard pass down the middle of field and with a successful 2-point conversion run, took a 20-13 lead.  The Rampage attempted to rally but Schaa's second pass attempt was intercepted to end any hopes of a comeback.

Offensively, Schaa was 5/11 for 133 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT while also rushing the ball 19 times for 80 yards and a TD.
RB Kevin Kannuan added 58 yards on 14 carries while Treibel had 3 receptions for 70 yards and Goeb hauled in 2 catches for 63 yards including a TD.  The Rampage offense racked up nine 1st Downs compared to the Crush's 6.  Defensively, the Rampage were led by MLB John Elkin (7 tackles, forced fumble), OLB Tyler Moen (5 tackles, pass deflection), DT Tom Goeders (4 tackles) and FS Andy Sowle (3 tackles, INT for 45-yard return, fumble recovery).  As well, DT Brian Miller collected 2 QB sacks for -22 yards along with DE Jared Bell who also had 2 QB sacks for -20 yards.  The Rampage defense held the Crush to just 28 rushing yards in 13 attempts while through the air the home team had 159 yards.

The Rampage next take on the Quad City Stallions in Webster City this coming Saturday with a scheduled kickoff at 4:00 pm; in their last meeting on May 22, the Rampage defeated the Stallions, 8-2, but that was the last loss the Stallions have had and have since won 3 straight.

Blaze blank Rampage with big plays
June 13, 2010

The Des Moines Blaze blanked the Midwest Rampage, 48-0, in Stampede Stadium on Saturday in front of an announced crowd of 315 to improve their record to 6-1/5-1 while the Rampage fell to 2-4/1-4.  On a hot, muggy afternoon, the Blaze scored 35-points 1st half point on a normally-stout Rampage defense and did so with big plays such as touchdown passes of 33- and 47-yards, an 80-yard touchdown run, and a 42-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown.  Despite the Rampage's ground-and-pound attack which produced 175-yards on the ground, 10 1st downs, and several advances inside the Red Zone, the Rampage couldn't match the home run hits of the Blaze.  "Hat's off to them," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "they  have definitely improved since we played them on May 8th and despite the pressure we put on the quarterback, they kept making plays and against a good team like they are, you can't give up 35-points in a half and expect to compete."

Offensively, RB Dan Schaa rushed for 84 yards on just 10 carries while RB Jake Thoma had 21 totes for 69 yards.  QB Tyler Mosbach was 7/12 for 51 yards while DB/KR Dirk Timm had 4 kickoff returns for 103 yards.  The defense was led by LB John Elkin who had 10 tackles along with DT Tom Goeders and FS Andy Sowle who each had 6 stops; Sowle also had a pass deflection that led to an interception.   "Big plays killed us today," said Elkin, "I mean, up to this game our defense has proven to be pretty darn tough and it's not like their offense was complicated or advanced--they just executed and before we knew it, they were up 28-0."  The Rampage will regroup as they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to take on the Capital City Crush (2-3) whom they defeated 20-18 on May 15th.

Turnovers costly as Rampage lose to Wildcats, 27-6
June 6, 2010

In the second match-up of the season, turnovers again proved costly for the Midwest Rampage (2-3 overall, 1-3 in Heartland Division) as they lost to the Nebraska Wildcats (2-3 overall, 2-2 in Heartland Division) 27-6 in Ralston, Nebraska last Saturday.  The Rampage took a 6-0 on just the second play of the game when DB Dirk Timm intercepted a pass and returned it 29-yards for the score to put the Rampage up 6-0 after a failed two point conversion.  However, the Wildcats then assumed a 10-6 lead before halftime via a 10-yard touchdown in the 1st Quarter followed by an amazing 67-yard field goal in the 2nd quarter.

Although the Wildcats would like to believe their run game was dominating, it only collected a total of 63 yards because of the big tackles-for-loss plays the Rampage defense inflicted upon the home team.  The 3rd quarter was scoreless and the game remained so until the last 8 minutes of the contest:  after LB Bret Hilpipre intercepted a pass and returned it to 27-yards to the Wildcat's 20-yard line, the Rampage drove down to the 4-yard line and were about ready to take the lead... however, on 4th and goal, QB Clint Howard's pass was intercepted in the end zone and returned 100-yards for a touchdown to put the Wildcats up 17-6.  The 'Cats then scored on a 57-yard pass play and added another score by way of a 49-field goal with 3 minutes in the game.

"Again, turnovers and poor field position doomed us," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "we had 3 interceptions--one being a touchdown that reversed us going up 12-10 with 7 minutes left to them taking an 11 point lead--along with a fumble and 3 punts of 15 or less yards.  Take in account they have a kicker who made two field goals of 45+ yards and there you have it."  The defense was led by LB John Elkin (12 tackles, 1 pass deflection), FS Andy Sowle (9 tackles, 1 fumble recovery), CB Dirk Timm (7 tackles, 1 INT for 29-yard TD), and DE Jared Bell (7 tackles).

Of the game, Elkin said, "Although the 'Cats did drive on us several times, we stopped them each time and overall held them to under 75 total yards rushing.  Passing-wise, they completed only two passes but both were costly: one for 42-yards and a 57-touchdown reception.  Overall, we played well enough to be in the game, 10-6, with under 10-minutes left and if the pick-six doesn't happen, we could have taken a 12- or 14-6 lead."  Elkin then added, "I am proud to say that once again the Rampage was penalized fewer times then our opponents [the Rampage were flagged 6 times for 50 yards while Nebraska had 8 penalties for 75 yards] and as always we play with class.  This game and league is funny because on any given night, any team can win: several weeks ago the Wildcats got smoked by the Crush, 27-10, and then we beat the Crush 20-18... so, it's all about how you play on that night.  We can't use excuses of we were missing X-number of players because until the end, we were in the game and had a chance to win it."

The Rampage will regroup as they prepare to take on Division leader the Des Moines Blaze (5-1) this Saturday in Webster City at 4:00 pm; the Blaze were 72-6 winners over the Capital City Crush.

Rampage vs. Wildcats Part II
May
31, 2010

After a much needed weekend of rest, the Midwest Rampage (2-2) prepare to take to the road and for the first time since the first game of the season, will have the opportunity to improve their record above .500 as they once again take on the Nebraska Wildcats (2-3) in Ralston, Nebraska.  While the Rampage are coming off a tough 8-2 win against the Quad City Stallions (1-3), the Wildcats fell to the Des Moines Blaze (4-1) over the holiday weekend, 31-9.  The Rampage opened up their 2010 season with a 22-15 loss to the Wildcats and in the game committed 7 turnovers while giving their opponents great field position all night.  "Just like at any level," commented Team President/CEO and linebacker John Elkin, "on any given Saturday any team can win.  As a team, we [the Rampage] strive every week to improve and we feel we've done that since opening day; that being said, we need to definitely step it up a notch this week because the first time we played the Wildcats they beat us, period."  Kickoff is scheduled at 6:00 pm and the Rampage would like to remind all fans traveling to the game that per the 2010 WFL team/stadium agreement, Rampage season passes will work at the Wildcats' venue.

Foster Funeral and Cremation Center upgrades sponsorship, helps secure charter bus to game in Lincoln on June 19
May
29, 2010

Foster Funeral and Cremation Center recently upgraded their sponsorship package to help the Rampage secure a charter bus to make the 9-hour round trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 19th to play the Capital City Crush.  "Much thanks Foster Funeral and Cremation Center for their generous support," said Coach Bill Smith, "as when we first started the Rampage, Mr. Erickson mentioned that if we needed helped getting a bus, to simply ask him.  After playing in the Quad Cities last weekend and making the 6-hour round trip, we thought in the best interest of safety and what was best for our players to try to get a charter bus because the game against the Crush in Lincoln not only begins at 7:00 pm, but is a longer drive."  Team President/CEO and linebacker John Elkin added to that sentiment, "We've had two away games thus far against opponents in much bigger cities and not to take anything away from them, but at our two home games we have had 450 and 350, respectively, fans at our games which is well above what our opponents had at their own games.  The fact is, we've brought just about as many fans to our away games as the home team had in the stands... so once again, thanks to all of the patrons of Midwest Rampage football."

Rampage enjoy weekend off
May
25, 2010

For the first time since May 1, the Midwest Rampage will not have a game this Saturday and the rest is not only well-deserved, but needed.  "We have some guys who are not only a bit banged up," said Team President/CEO and middle linebacker John Elkin, "but who haven't played football in several years so having Memorial Weekend off is good for us."  The Rampage began the season with a 22-15 opening day lost to the Nebraska Wildcats and then dropped their next game to the Des Moines Blaze, 32-12, before rattling off two close wins against the Capital City Crush and Quad City Stallions, 20-18 and 8-2, respectively.  "Although we have steadily improved out play every game, our two wins were essentially come-from-behind victories and I know all of players want to win convincingly... so we are going to practice focused the next two weeks before we start the second half of our schedule," Elkin added.  The Rampage travel to Ralston, Nebraska, to play their second game with the Nebraska Wildcats on June 5 at 6:00 pm.

Game review vs. Stallions
May
24, 2010

For the second week in a row, the Midwest Rampage improved their play in every facet and defeated a very good team in the Quad City Stallions of the Mid-Land Football League.  Offensively, QB Clint Howard was 11/20 for 165 yards with 2 INTs while his top receivers were Andy Goeb (4 receptions for 58 yards), Clint Foth (3 receptions for 48 yards), Kevin Kannuan (1 reception for 25 yards), Nate Treibel (1 reception for 19 yards).  RB Jake Thoma carried the ball 20 times for 84-yards while HB Dan Schaa had 6 totes for 34 yards and a touchdown.  Schaa also was 1/2 passing-wise with a 5-yard reception by TE Zach Klaver who also caught a 2-pt conversion from Howard.  Defensively, the Black Plague was led by FS Andy Sowle (14 tackles, 4 pass deflections), LB John Elkin (14 tackles), LB Bret Hilpipre (10 tackles, 1 forced fumble), and DT Tom Goeders (6 tackles).  DE Jared Bell also added 5 stops and his counter part Caleb Bonjour had 3 along with the only Rampage QB sack of the day for -8 yards.  The defensive backfield had a banner day and credit goes to DBs
Josh Chambers (3 tackles, 3 pass deflections, 1 INT), Dirk Timm (3 tackles, 1 INT, fumble recovery, and Joe Stattelman (2 tackles, 3 pass deflections, 1 interception).  The Rampage had 14 1st downs compared to the Stallions' 9 and both teams each had 3 penalties for 20 yards.

Balanced attack key in Rampage's 8-2 victory over Quad City Stallions to collect second win in a row
May
23, 2010

The Midwest Rampage improved their overall record to 2-2  (1-2 in Heartland Division) with a 8-2 victory over the Quad City Stallions (1-3) in Rock Island, Illinois, on Saturday.   Traveling just over 3 hours with 38 total players, the Rampage found themselves down 2-0 after QB Clint Howard was sacked in the endzone after DB Joe Stattelman intercepted a pass on the Stallions' initial series.  The Stallions lead lasted until the last 4 minutes of the game despite the fact that the Rampage's offense consistently moved the ball the entire game using a balanced running attack led by RB Jake Thoma and Dan Schaa.  As well, Howard found multiple receivers including TEs Clint Foth and Zach Klaver along with WRs Andrew Goeb and Nate Treibel; however, playing against a tough Stallion defense, the Rampage were unable to score until the final minutes as Schaa ran for a 3-yard touchdown to take the lead with the ensuing two-point attempt caught by TE Zach Klaver.  Offensively, the Stallions had a difficult time moving the ball very well against the Black Plague Defense and although they penetrated several times deep into Rampage territory, the Black Plague never allowed their opponent to score.  "Athletically, the Stallions are one of the best teams we've played all season," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "their defense is very fast and aggressive and offensively they have some great skill players with exceptional speed.  For the first time on special teams, especially punt, we played a complete game which is just what we needed considering one major mistake [for either team] would have made the difference in the game."  The Rampage will enjoy the Memorial Day holiday with a bye before again taking to the road against the Nebraska Wildcats (2-2) on June 5th in Ralston, Nebraska.  Pictures from the game are now up and much thanks to Danielle Wilder and Danika Campidilli.

Game review:  Offense rolls, Black Plague defense stifles
May
16, 2010

The Midwest Rampage (1-2) racked up 314 yards of total offense against the Capital City Crush as QB Clint Howard was 10/29 for 153 yards and 3 TDs while RB Jake Thoma churned out 127 yards on 30 carries (4.2 average).  HB Dan Schaa added another 39 yards on 10 carries as well as caught 3 passes for 17 yards.  Receiving-wise, WR Kevin Kannuan hauled in 2 catches for 72 yards and 2 TDs, WR Andy Goeb caught 3 passes for 27 yards and a TD, and TE Clint Foth had 2 catches for 27 yards including a 2-point conversion.  Defensively, the Rampage's "Black Plague" limited the Crush to only 70 total yards which included a mere 7 net yards rushing and 63 yards passing.  Linebackers John Elkin and Darren Holtkamp each had 9 tackles and Holtkamp also intercepted a Crush pass he returned for 15 yards.  DB Andy Sowle collected 8 tackles while DB Bret Hilpipre had 5 stops including a crucial forced fumble recovered by DE Aaron Onder.  The defense also sacked the Crush's quarterback 3 times for at total of -18 yards and included sacks by DT Brian Miller (-7 yards), OLB Brice Batemon (-4), and Onder (-7).  Trailing 18-12, DB Dirk Timm intercepted a pass which then led to the Rampage's game-winning touchdown by Kannuan from Howard as the Rampage won 20-18.  Head Coach Chris Hansen said of the game, "I thought our play improved immensely from the week before; although we cut down on the number of turnovers we had, we still need to work on our kicking game and it matters not that we out gained them yardage-wise on offense because they still almost beat us proving once again that special teams do matter."

Midwest Rampage put crush on Capital City, 20-18, notch first win in franchise history
May
15, 2010

The Midwest Rampage (1-2) earned their first victory earlier today with a 20-18 victory over the previously undefeated Capital City Crush (2-1) at Stampede Stadium in Webster City in front of an announced crowd of 324 people.  The Rampage, as they have done the past two games, came ready to play and jumped out to 6-0 lead in the 1st Quarter on the strength of its running game led by RB Jake Thoma and drew first blood when QB Clint Howard connected with WR Andrew Goeb for the score.   Defensively, the Rampage's "Black Plague" defense stifled both the Crush's ground and aerial attack and led 6-0 at halftime.  In the 3rd the Rampage again came out strong; however, a bad snap on a punt gave the Crush the ball on the Rampage's 2-yarld line which lead to a touchdown to tie the game 6-6 and the ensuing Rampage punt was short and gave Capital City the ball inside the Rampage's own 30-yard line and they capitalized by scoring to take a 12-6 lead.  In the 4th quarter the Crush then struck again on a 25-yard pass to take a commanding 18-6 lead.  Not a team to give up easily, the Rampage got right back into the game when OLB Bret Hilpipre forced a fumble inside the Crush's 30-yard line that was recovered by DE Aaron Onder.  Howard then connected with WR Kevin Kannuan for a touchdown and the two-point attempt, TE Clint Foth hauled in Howard's pass to narrow the Crush's lead to 18-14.  On the next series the Rampage defense clamped down even more as DB Dirk Timm intercepted a Crush pass; three plays later Howard again connected with Kannuan to reclaim the lead with a 20-18 advantage despite the failed two-point attempt.  After the defense stopped the Crush on four plays at midfield, the offense ran the clock out after picking up a 1st down.  The Rampage next travel to the Quad Cities to take on the Quad Cities Stallions (1-2) of the now-defunct Mid-Land Football League who were 38-0 winners over the Iowa Eagles (0-2) of Fort Dodge.  Thanks to all the fans in attendance as well as Brad Tharp for announcing the game via UStream.

Rampage prepare for Crush
May
14, 2010

The Midwest Rampage (0-2) are gearing up to take on the Capital City Crush (2-0) who will be traveling from Lincoln, Nebraska, for a scheduled 3:00 pm Heartland Division match-up.  While the Rampage dropped their second game to the Des Moines Blaze, 32-12, the Crush defeated the Nebraska Wildcats 27-10.  The UStream broadcast should begin around 2:45 pm for anyone who is unable to make it to the game.  "We greatly improved our play from the week before," said
Head Coach Chris Hansen, "but we need to eliminate the mental mistakes and turnovers.  I can count 6 plays that make the difference between us being 0-2 and 2-0.  Look for the Rampage play well against a good team in the Crush."

Blaze too intense for Rampage
May 9, 2010 **UPDATED***

The Midwest Rampage (0-2) fell to the Des Moines Blaze (2-0) 32-12 at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines earlier today. The Rampage came out ready to play and although the Blaze won the coin toss and took the ball first, DB Andy Sowle intercepted a tipped pass and the Rampage then drove 65 yards on the strength of its running game led by RB Jake Thoma and drew first blood to take a 6-0 lead when QB Clint Howard tossed a 10-yard touchdown reception to HB Dan Schaa. The Rampage then played great defense and led throughout the 1st Quarter. However, the Blaze owned the 2nd quarter and took a 12-6 lead before errors on special teams proved to be setbacks for the Rampage: a fumble on a kickoff return led to the Blaze taking a 19-6 lead followed by a block punt returned for a touchdown had the Blaze leading 26-6 at halftime. In the 2nd Half, the Rampage took their second possession possession to the Blaze's 10-yard line before again turning the ball over. Des Moines scored again in the 3rd period to take a 32-6 lead before the Rampage stalled their offense the rest of the game and as time expired, TE Clint Foth caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from Howard; Howard was 10/20 for 128 yards and 2 TDs while Thoma carried the ball 26 times for 104 yards. On defense, the Rampage were led by MLB John Elkin who had 12 tackles and forced 2 fumbles, DB Bret Hilpipre who collected 8 tackles and a fumble recovery, and DT Brian Miller who had 7 tackles and 1 QB sack for -5 yards. The Rampage next host the Capital City Crush at home next Saturday, May 15th, with kickoff at 3:00 pm.

Rampage drop opener, 22-15, in nail-biting last seconds
May 2, 2010

The Midwest Rampage (0-1) lost their 2010 season (and inaugural franchise) game, 22-15, to the Nebraska Wildcats (1-0).  In front of a crowd of 450 (announced at 428) the Rampage nearly took the game into Overtime as WR Nate Triebel caught a twice-tipped pass at his own 30-yard line and ran 60-yards before being taken down as time expired.  Although the Rampage's offense looked fluid at times, along with two block punts, committed 6 turnovers (3 interceptions and 3 fumbles).  Defensively, the Rampage played solid as proven by the fact while the Wildcats had 7 different drives that started inside the Rampage's 20-yard line, they only came away with 13 total points and included two goal line stands.  "Of course we wanted to win," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "and I thought we played more then well enough to but we didn't make enough of the opportunities that we had; the Wildcats put the ball on the ground six different times yet we never recovered it.  We also nearly intercepted 3 passes--we should have and one appeared to be a pick-six--but we didn't.  On offense while we sometimes stalled, we did have the ball inside their 25-yard line on two different occasions and didn't score.  However, we did have 99-yard and 96-yard scoring drives.  Defensively we played as tough as I've seen a team play and credit goes to the Wildcats' kicker:  he made a 47-field goal along with two other kicks and when you have a weapon like that, you have to use it."  To view game stats, click HERE.  The Rampage next take on the Des Moines Blaze (1-0) in Des Moines at 9:45 on May 8th; the Blaze defeated the Quad City Stallions, 33-12, of the Mid-Land Football League.

With just hours left until kickoff, the Midwest Rampage are ready to begin their 2010 inaugural season.  "The hay's in the barn," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "both the staff and players have done pretty much everything they can to be successful... now it's just time to play, have fun, and win."  Team President/CEO and middle linebacker John Elkin echoed Hansen's sentiment and said, "Since December, the Board of Directors and coaching staff has done nothing but work on this team.  The town of Webster City has been great... today we were on the radio, there was a big article in the Daily Freeman-Journal yesterday, and last week the Rampage was the feature article in WC Living magazine.  We've sold over 650 season passes and when it comes down to it, the 48 players on the Rampage have nothing but support--now it's just time to live up to the expectation."  Kickoff against the Nebraska Wildcats is at 3:00 pm tomorrow... time to get your Rage on.

Sioux Falls Shrine dropped from regular season schedule, familiar foe Quad City Stallions added
April 22, 2010

Due to their status in the World Football League, the Sioux Falls Shrine (Sioux Falls, S.D.) has been dropped from the Rampage's 2010 schedule and in their place the Quad City Stallions have been added.  As with the Shrine, the Rampage will travel to the Quad Cities to take on the Stallions at 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 22nd while on June 26th at 4:00 pm the Stallions will travel to Webster City.  The Stallions are a familiar foe to many veteran Rampage players as they were a member of the WFL in 2009 that went 6-4 and qualified for the WFL playoffs; as former Iowa Eagles, most Rampage players split the two-game series with the Stallions by first losing to them, 36-18, before winning in overtime, 21-18, later in the season.

April 21, 2010

The scoreboard, a Daktronics SO-2198 LED Outdoors Scoreboard, measures 5 feet high tall by 10 feet wide and is capable of keeping both time and score for soccer, football, and track. The scoreboard cost a total of $4,500 of which the Rampage paid $3,500 while the remaining $1,000 was paid by the Youth Sports Foundation. Much thanks to Webster City Community Schools Director of Building & Grounds Dave Orton as well as Maintenance Department members Steve Saathoff and Michael "Chubby" Smith for installing the scoreboard.

Rampage plan to have audio broadcast of games via UStream
April 6, 2010
The Midwest Rampage plan on having audio broadcasts of their games from their website via UStream.  "This is something I and Joe Gilbert explored last year while playing for another team," said Team President/CEO John Elkin, "and since that time, the technology has gotten so user-friendly, it's simple."  The broadcasts would be available to
anyone anywhere as long as they could access the website.  "It would be really cool if we not only had someone to do our home games, but also our away ones," Elkin added, "but right now we'll settle for what we can get... I have family that live in both Georgia and South Carolina and although they are coming to a game this season, I think they, like other people, would enjoy the opportunity to follow our games live."  Stay tuned as in the near future a Beta test will take place.

Take new "Burning Question of the Month" poll
April 2, 2010

Game time for July 10th game vs. Bridge City Knight changes
April 2, 2010

The July 10th contest against the Bridge City Knights of the NAFL has now changed to 5:30 pm instead of 5:00 pm due to a slight conflict but team officials expect the change to go unnoticed.  "Sunset that day is at 8:49," said Team President/CEO John Elkin who also plays middle linebacker, "so we have over 3 hours to play before it gets dark.  Also, if anything, a later game in mid-July will help out with the heat, especially those players who have issues with cramping."

Truly we are the Midwest Rampage."

Rampage presents to Rotary
March 29, 2010

Midwest Rampage Team President John Elkin and Vice President Darin Eklund were the special guests of the Rotary today that met in the lower level of the Second Street Emporium for lunch.  Elkin presented a 25-minute PowerPoint to a crowd of 35 people that explained what exactly Minor League football is and how the Rampage came about.  He also spoke in detail about the Rampage's successful turnout at their tryouts as well as its current roster of 49 players representing 21 different Iowa towns or cities.  As well, Elkin explained the Rampage's Player's Code, team goals, and the upcoming season.  "It was an honor to speak to members of the Rotary at their luncheon," said Elkin, "because many of them are not only fans of ours, but also sponsors."

486 and counting...
March 28, 2010

To date, the Midwest Rampage and its players have sold 486 season passes which include individual, family, and business packages.  "We are very pleased with the support the town of Webster City and surrounding communities have given us," said Team President/CEO John Elkin who also plays middle linebacker, "and one major reason we wanted to have a team here was because we believed we'd be supported
—and that's exactly what has happened in all facets.  Our goal was to sell 500 tickets before the season and we are almost there."  Elkin also wanted people to know that a large number of those tickets were sold by players in conjunction of paying for their equipment.  "The single biggest cost any first year team faces is suiting up their players and to that end, the Board of Directors allowed the sale of passes and sponsorships to pay directly for a [specific] player's equipment which they then own at the end of the season.  Basically, it's a win-win-win situation for everyone:  sponsors get to see a football game and/or receive advertisement, tee shirts, etc. while players get to play football and the Rampage gets to have a team."

Public Notice:  Deadline for new players as well as both Feature and Major sponsors fast approaching!
March 17, 2010

The deadline for any new player joining the squad is fast approaching as the upcoming season nears.  "At this time," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "I would say that a week from this Saturday--March 27th--is the last day we will sign any new player; this gives them one month before our first game to become part of our team, learn the playbook, and honestly get to know what we're all about."  Hansen then added, "We currently have 47 players on our roster and although we can have as many as 55, WFL rules state that by the fourth game we can only have 50 active players... we have added another center on offense but have not yet signed him and there are two more possible players coming, so right now it's not only 'first come-first serve' but also who will best help us out."  On that same matter, Team President/CEO John Elkin wanted to inform any potential sponsors that the deadline for any Feature ($1000+) or Major ($500-999) sponsors was near its due date.  "At the end of the month--although we'll still welcome any Feature or Major sponsors--anyone interested in those packages need to understand that some of the perks won't be available; for example, $500 and up will get your logo on our 27"x19" poster of which we are getting 1,000 printed, but since we're sending that to the printer the first week of April, they'll miss out on that opportunity so if you are seriously considering buying a sponsorship package from the Rampage, time is of the essence."  For any questions regarding joining the team or purchasing a Major or Feature package, please contact either Head Coach Chris Hansen or Team President/CEO John Elkin.

Roster swells to 48; opponent change for July 10 game
February 24th, 2010

2010 roster officially released
February 14th, 2010

Team officials for the Midwest Rampage released its 2010 roster after securing both player contracts and their financial obligations.  As it stands, the Rampage have officially signed 46 players representing 22 different towns/cities in Iowa.  "On paper and experience-wise, we have a very solid team," said Head Coach Chris Hansen, "now we just need to make things happen on the field.  Although we may add a person or two if it seems fit to do so, I honestly feel we have just the right amount of players on the squad."  The Rampage signed a plethora of former NAFL/WFL All-Stars as well as All-Americans and to name a few, include RB Jake Thoma, OT Joe Gilbert, WR Chris McNiel, DE Jared Bell, and DB Andy Sowle.  The team also landed former All-State and/or NE Hamilton preps such as DB Dirk Timm, OLB Darren Holtkamp, TE Zach Klaver, and RB Dan Schaa.  As well, the Rampage signed OG/DT Eddie Shufford who blocked for Troy Davis at Iowa State and OT Josh Christensen who has played Indoor Football.  Also joining the squad is a group of former Webster City players such as OT Nick Stueland, OT/DE Aaron Onder, DT Caleb Bonjour as well as recent 2009 grads WRs Kevin Kannuan and Nate Treibel, RBs Brett Hilpipre and Ross Haren, and QB Tyler Mosbach; this latter group helped lead the Lynx to the 2008 playoffs.  Finally, the Rampage signed QB Clint Howard, a former Central College player who also used to be the head coach at Sigourney-Keota where he led the Savage Cobras to the 2007 Class 2A playoffs.  Speaking on behalf of the Rampage Board of Directors,  Team President John Elkin said, "We are very pleased with the interest the Rampage has sparked and one main reason we wanted to start a team in Webster City is because we believed we could draw a lot of players—and that has clearly happened.  Also, we want to thank all of our sponsors... support from business, the community, and people in general has been overwhelmingly positive.  To date, we have sold over 315 season tickets and our goal is 500 before our first game on May 1st."  Elkin then added, "We have guys driving from places such as Mason City, Iowa City, Ames, Des Moines, Manson, Fort Dodge, Clarion, and Eagle Grove to play for us.  Even more so, we are proud to say DT Cory Simpson, a Manson native who is currently stationed in Afghanistan, will be joining our team when he gets returns to the U.S. sometime in June—Cory financially committed to us and we are all excited to see him.  Overall, we couldn't ask for a better group of players."

Results for January's "Burning Question"; take the new poll
January 31, 2010

January's question was, "How many games will the Midwest Rampage win in 2010?" resulted in 181 total votes and overwhelmingly 116 (64%) of the people voted 8+ games while 32 people (18%) believe the Rampage will win between 5-7 games.  As well, 18 individuals (10%) think we'll only win between 1-3 games while 11 people (6%) voted 4-6 games will be won.  Finally, 5 people (3%) think (or is it hope?) the Rampage will go winless in 2010 and it must be noted that there were actually 15 total votes for this result but the same person (read: IP Address) cast their vote 11 times but 10 of those were discounted as they were repeat votes (some people!)  Take February's poll starting today!

2010 schedule officially released
January 30, 2010

The 2010 Midwest Rampage schedule has officially been released and is now updated on the website.  The Rampage will compete in the Heartland Division of the World Football League against the Des Moines Blaze (Des Moines, IA), Capital City Crush (Lincoln, NE), Nebraska Wildcats (Bellevue, NE), and the Sioux Falls Shrine (Sioux Falls, SD).  The Rampage will play four Division home and away games and are currently negotiating a fifth home game against a non-World Football League opponent.  "We have an excellent schedule," said Team President John Elkin, "both in respect to who we play in our Division as well as travel time."  While the July 10th date against a non-WFL foe will not be announced until it's official, Elkin did say, "For the record because there is a lot of speculation—as well as wishful thinking from a lot of people—I will say that unfortunately the Rampage will not be playing the Iowa Eagles from Fort Dodge as they have respectfully declined an offer to play us... so basically people can quit asking about it."  The first game of the 2010 season is a home game in Webster City on Saturday, May 1st against the Nebraska Wildcats.

Rampage sign first wave of players to roster
January 30, 2010

The Midwest Rampage had their first official team meeting today which included players signing contracts as well as receiving playbooks.  "Out of respect for the ten or so players who couldn't make it, I'm not going to release any names or numbers until all players have signed their contracts and committed to the team," said Team President John Elkin, "but I will reveal that we had an excellent turnout and that we not only have a great core veteran group of players with previous experience—either Minor or Indoor league—but that we also have a lot of new young blood." Head Coach Chris Hansen then added, "We still have room for some more players but not much... as well, time is running out so if there are still players interested in playing for the Rampage, they need to get into contact with either myself or John Elkin immediately."

5 facts about the Rampage
December 30, 2009
1.  Every player has to pay their own equipmentwhich they then own INCLUDING the helmet!  The cost of equipment may derive from the selling of season passes and/or sponsorships... essentially, players can "play for free" but they will have a personal investment in the team.
2.  Everything will be earned.  Whether its a captainship (voted on by the team) or playing time, the only promise that will ever be made is that nothing will be given and all will be earned.  Isn't that how it should be?
3.  It is expected that players show up in shape.  We believe to be winners means the time for being in shape is NOW
not LATER!  Practice time will be spent refining execution, not conditioning.
4.  It is expected that players know the playbook.  Practices will be structured and ideally run around 1 1/2 hours and while actual coaching and teaching will take place, realize that the majority of time will be spent on learning to execute.
5.  This team was created to...  have fun, showcase athletic talent, and to provide a positive outlet for family-oriented entertainment
NOT to make money!

Family, friends, and others welcome to attend tryouts!
December 2
8, 2009
For both the January 9th and 23rd Open Tryouts, family (wives, children, parents, etc.) and friends are more than welcome to attend and watch the tryouts which will begin at 1:00 pm so it is suggested that players arrive around 12:30 to get registered and warmed up!  Remember, we're a family-oriented team and such that... the more the merrier!

Due to input from team owners, coaches, and presidents, the WFL has released another preliminary plan for the 2010 season:  there will be three, 4 division teams based on location/travel time as well as whether or not youth teams exist.  As of now, it looks like the Heartland Division will consist of the Rampage, Des Moines Blaze, Capital City Crush, and Nebraska Wolfpack.  There will be an 8-team playoff format in which the Division winners have automatic berths while four other teams are Wildcard berths.  As well, the top two teams in the league will get a 1st Round bye.  Check back frequently as if you haven't noticed, we keep our site updated and when the official schedule and format is released it will be posted here!

Great turnout for Team Meeting, Rampage moves forward
December 13, 2009
The official birth of the Midwest Rampage happened yesterday at the first Team Meeting which witnessed 41 (potential) players in attendance and counting the 16 who couldn't make it (but let team officials know in advance), that means a total of those seriously interested in playing for the the Rampage was 57.  "We are very pleased with the turnout," said Team President John Elkin who led a meeting that included both a PowerPoint presentation and a short video.  "I believe there are 64 people on the contact list so to have all but seven either attend or let me know they couldn't, that's excellent."  Elkin also added, "I've received nothing but positive feedback from a lot of players and a bunch of them have already committed to playing for us.  Even if a guy doesn't end up playing for us, I hoped they like what they heard and saw.  We honestly believe that we have something special started and the bottom line is that all of our focus
and by 'all' I mean the Board of Directors and staffis solely on the Midwest Rampage... we hope the same goes for anyone who is involved in our team."  Prior to the meeting, Riddell rep Joe Clausen sized incoming players on equipment and afterwards said, "I've been to a lot of these initial semi-pro meetings and by far that was the best one I've even seen.  [The Rampage] is very organized and their presentation was clearly laid out."  Next up for the Rampage and its players is the first of two tryouts on Saturday, January 9th at 1:00 pm followed by a tryout on January 23rd at 1:00 pm; both take place at Webster City High School.

LEAGUE NEWS
World Football League dominates Minor League Football News Awards and All-American game
December 9, 2009
Need another reason to play for the Rampage and in the World Football League?  Well, the WFL cleaned up the MLFN awards banquet held last Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada, proving that the WFL is both a legitimate and dominate league in Minor League football.  In all, eight WFL players received awards that featured 3 finalists for every major category and a total of seven award winners were from the Oklahoma Thunder.  Most notable, Thunder linebacker Jeremy Gray won both the "Linebacker" and "Defensive Player of the Year" awards in which Rampage middle linebacker John Elkin was also a finalist.  The WFL also dominated the MLFN All-American game as the All-Americans defeated the Las Vegas Knights, 51-0.  Congrats to the Thunder, a fellow WFL brother to the Midwest Rampage.

Facts and rumors about the Rampage:  Get the truth here!
December 6, 2009
Things are shaping up for the Midwest Rampage who
on the verge of their first team meeting this coming Saturday, December 12thofficially announced their birth not even a month ago.  There are currently over 60 players who have either committed and/or expressed interest in playing for the team and the squad already has two assistant coaches.  As well, the organization brokered a great deal with Riddell to purchase equipment which means suiting up players for the upcoming 2010 season will be very inexpensive.  With all that being said, there is a "rumor" going around that the Rampage are going to charge each player $1,000 to be on the team!!! Obviously, this is VERY untrue and was mostly likely started by a rival who is not only jealous of the Rampage, but also bitter.  If you have a question about the team, simply email either John Elkin, Andy Sowle.  For sure, the Midwest Rampage is going to be something special so if you can Feel the Rage, come join our campaign!

Welcome to the official website of the Midwest Rampage, a new, yet experienced, Minor League football squad that aims to bring competitive, hard-hitting, and family-oriented entertainment to North Central Iowa.  The Rampage consists of many former members of the 2009 Iowa Eagles who not only finished 2nd in the Heartland Division of the World Football League with a record of 5-2, but  who also were only 1 of 8 out of 18 teams to qualify for the WFL Playoffs where they lost in the 1st Round to finish 5-5 overall.  Also, many Rampage players have earned either WFL or NAFL All-Star status as well as being named to various All-American squads; our roster also consists of team M.V.P.s as well as the 2009 WFL Co-Defensive Player of the Year!  Simply put, we're ready to start busting some heads now!  We are currently assembling a team including players, coaches, and staff who want to be part of a squad that wins by dominating their opponents.  Come feel the rage and join our campaign!  Please contact either John Elkin or Andy Sowle if you want to become part of the Rampage.
