2010 Success & Highlights
For the Midwest Rampage, a first-year team in 2010, there were many successes and highlights and the major ones are listed below. Above all other things, the biggest success and highlight of the season was the fact that Webster City and the surrounding communities had its own team that was fully supported.
64
players from 31 different town or cities tried out for the Rampage.
The team signed officially signed 48 players to its roster representing 21 different Iowa towns as far as Sheldon and Iowa City.
Although 8 players got injured and subsequently were
placed on injured reserve, of the 9 games the Rampage played in 2010, except for
one contest they played with no less than 37 players every game.
The Midwest Rampage had the
full support of businesses, fans, and the communities of Webster City and the
surrounding areas.
The Rampage had 5 home
games in Webster City and had over 1,500 total fans in attendance. The
first game of the season witnessed 428 total fans show up.
The 1st Annual Midwest
Rampage Dart Tournament was a major draw.
Of the 5 home games the
Rampage hosted, 4 of them were broadcast to the internet via UStream.
The team received
unprecedented support from the local media. For starters, Webster City Living
magazine did a feature story in April about the Rampage (who also graced the
cover). Second, The Daily Freeman-Journal not only had a preseason
article about the Rampage schedule, but every single game the rest of the season
also had its own article. Finally, KQWC Radio had the "Rampage Report"
every Monday morning following a game.
The Rampage traveled just
as many fans (and sometimes more) as its opponents had in their own venues and
included big city teams in the Quad Cities, Des Moines, Lincoln, and Omaha.
The team had a bona fide
9-game schedule with no issues whatsoever (e.g. forfeits, etc.).
Financially, the Rampage
were stable the entire season and even took a charter bus to the game in
Lincoln.
Although the Rampage ended
the season with a 3-6 record, they were competitive in every single game except
one; they lost 2 games by 7 points and 1 game by 1 point. Regarding the
other two losses, the Rampage were in both games until late in the contests.
The Rampage outrushed
their opponents 1,290 to 853, outpassed them 1,178 to 815, and had more
1st downs then their opponents 105-69.
Prior to the season, the
team purchased a new multi-purpose scoreboard at the high school track to be
used by the Rampage as well as the Youth Sports Foundation and the Lynx track
teams.
The Rampage participated
in the following charitable events:
- RV & Outdoor Sports Show in
Fort Dodge.
- Relay for Life in which
they had a Dunk Tank and auctioned off a signed helmet and two jerseys; all
proceeds went to cause for cancer.
- The team had a float in the town of Williams' Independence Day parade.
- The team also had a float in the Hamilton County Fair parade in Webster
City.
9 Rampage players were named to the
All-WFL team including four players to the 1st Team.
